The chains are lowered slowly as the clock keeps the time and last for about twelve hours before they need winding again. Some have small pendulums that fall behind the chains--but a lot of them do not.

Most chime clocks cannot be obtained in ordinary shops, but should be sought at specialty clock stores.

Many chime clocks are wall pieces ranging widely in size and shape. The wood is stained at times--but chime clocks may be found painted, as well. There are various shades and styles--some would go perfect in the kitchen area, some in the den or living room, a few in the study and chime clocks may also give a classy and somewhat stylish look to your office.

Most chime clocks, however, are made of stained wood, a few arching at the top, others flat on both top and bottom with a subtle design on the sides. Some are long and slender, while some are smaller and broad--there are numerous variations.
