My first exposure to on-line publications was in school. Although we always had the option to buy textbooks in the store, many of the professors put their books on-line as well. Doing that would save the pupils money and let them access the publications from any computer in the campus. This meant that you never had to carry around your textbooks - a major benefit after a semester of trudging through the snow.

At first, I wasn't very into publications on-line. I could not get into the experience, you see. It just did not feel right to me. I like to be able to relax with a publication, holding it in my hands and flipping the pages. I could tell where things were located and recollect the pages by their position. With the book online, you can't do any of these things. It stresses your eyes, calls for you to sit up-right in the same pose for hour upon hour, and is very hard to flip your way through. I also like audio books on CD, though.

After a few years of online book reading, however, I was much more acclimated to the technique, just like I had gotten acclimated to audio books. I had already started to buy publications online for almost every purpose. I bought sports books online, textbooks on-line - you think of it. Not only did the web let me buy printed publications cheaply, but it also allowed me to access many things that were out of print.

Reading publications on-line isn't truly that good for modern literature that you can buy in the store. You may as well either buy it or take it out of the library, or hear it, with books on cd. The awesome thing about publications on-line, however, is that you may often find very old ones with very little trouble. Resources such as Project Gutenberg allow you to access the great classics of writing from all places and times all over the world. As long as it is no longer copy-protected, you can legally put the book online.

Of course, the area where books online have the best benefit of all is with audio publications. The awesome thing about audio publications online is that it's so much more expedient than having to take them out of the library or turn to an audio publication shop. Instead, you can just down-load them to your computer and listen to them at your leisure. If you want to take them with you, you can put them on an mp3 player or put them on compact disk. Audio publications online make a lot of sense.
